Wow。 Just wow。 There was so much that happened in this book that I am at a loss of words。 The ending answered so many questions I had and I am even more excited to see what will happen next。

Really slow start, found a lot of the characters more annoying in this book。 I like how slow the mystery is unfolding。 Once again, middle school me would have been obsessed。

Amazing, then so sad, then a little better, then POW! I never saw it coming。

WHAT JUST HAPPENED 4/5 ⭐This book was waaaayy better than the first one, I liked the idea for the plot of the first one better but I liked how this one kind of sets up the plot for future books?Reasons why I liked this book more: -Celaena is an actual assassin with a badass personality。 - Dorian :) - All the secrets and plot twists (some of them very predictable tho)- THE ENDING - no longer a love triangle (thank god for that) - more action!!!!- shit got real in this oneCharacters- Celaena: I WHAT JUST HAPPENED 4/5 ⭐This book was waaaayy better than the first one, I liked the idea for the plot of the first one better but I liked how this one kind of sets up the plot for future books?Reasons why I liked this book more: -Celaena is an actual assassin with a badass personality。 - Dorian :) - All the secrets and plot twists (some of them very predictable tho)- THE ENDING - no longer a love triangle (thank god for that) - more action!!!!- shit got real in this oneCharacters- Celaena: I loved her in this one。 She finally became the goddess, badass, assassin that she is。 I was expecting the main "plot twist" or "revelation" and the betrayal from one of whom she trusted but it was so good。 The fighting scenes were so iconic, finally some action! Honestly, I didn't expect her to go all psycho with Chaol but it was pretty funny。 - DorianFavorite character。 I like how isn't portrayed as the normal prince with awesome fighting skills but sensible and fragile。 And that strange thing that happened to him? I was not expecting that one。 - ChaolI don't understand why people hate him, maybe the later books? I like him for now。 He is loyal, fierce and would do anything for Celaena。 What else can you ask from him? Nothing, he does his job correctly。 Also, I wrote this review listening to my Kaz inspired playlist :)That's it。 BYE! 。。。more

She's an idiot, I guess。 A bunch of tom foolery later and it turns out that Archer is kinda the bad guy and wants Celaena to join up with him。 She says no and mercs him。 There is also some mystery subplots with Wyrdmarks and the tomb and some infinity stone dupes。 Celaena is yet again dumb with the riddles, but what can I expect? Anyways, not a bad plot。 My gripe with is that Celaena is often dumb, even when the answer is right in front of her face。 It would have been nice to have a few more people in the story so it wasn't painfully obvious who the bad guy was, but it is YA so maybe the teens have some pea brains or something。 Story: So I think SJM balanced the story a lot better in this one。 While we still had our love triangle, it wasn't overtaking the plot。 I also don't mind the love triangle。 I think she handles it pretty well。 Dorian got his change in the first book, and Chaol is the love interest in this one。 He's fine, a bit overbearing, but overall okay。 Dorian has more personality and is a bit more of an interesting character, so I prefer him。 He actually has his own story that I liked。 Thanks for finally giving one of the boys something to do and develop though。 Chaol just feels like a beefly log sometimes lol。 I do like the riddles, mysteries, and action scenes。 I think they are pretty decent and we finally see Celaena in action rather than being told that she is awesome and whatnot。 Although, can we actually see her being a damn assassin? If she is just going to kill people and not assassinate them, wtf is the point of her being an assassin? I guess she isn't that great of an assassin。 Idk minor gripe。 Oh, also the Celaena/Chaol fight thing was really extra。 I understand her angry and stuff, but damn girl。 Let's not have the emotions run everything。 Finally thought: thank god we finally got some more magical shit。 That's what I am looking for in my fantasy。 Characters: Not too many feels about these guys。 They are okay overall。 Dorian is probably the best with Nehemia being done so dirty。 Anyways, starting with Celaena, I don't mind her as character。 SJM definitely improved her from the first book and gave her more strength and depth。 She can be a bit annoying and extra, but I have read worse。 Her depression scenes were nice。 I enjoy seeing a character beaten down and broken。 Shows some growth。 How she got this depression is a bit problematic, but we'll get there。 I am glad we actually got to see her in action。 I hated being told how great she is, but never seeing it。 Also, maybe it is being a have a very basic idea of these book, but her Fae heritage is so obvious from the first book, I don't quite get the outrage about her big reveal。 Idk its YA fantasy。 The characters aren't usually Joe whatever off the street with nothing going for them。 Probably would lead to a boring book。 Next we got Dorian。 I liked that Dorian got his own thing in the book。 He did nothing other than look pretty in the first book。 I really liked his magical arc and it add another layer of mystery to the book。 I wish SJM did a little more with it, like him developing it a bit more, but oh well。 Dorian also had some really nice growth, especially with the love triangle。 It was a nice surprise。 He is still my favorite of the two because he actually has a distinct personality。 Chaol , however, is a log most of the time。 His personality is pretty boring and stoic, so he isn't as nice to read about。 He is also way too focused on Celaena and doesn't really do much other than talk to some people every once in a while? I wish he had subplot like Dorian。 He's a nice boy I guess。 Nehemia, my queen, was done so fucking dirty。 Damn you SJM for doing that shit。 You need to be bullied, and I hope the fan base did when you published this book。 Why do you gotta be like this? There weren't any other side character so I guess that was nice。 I hate keep track of a million people。 My one damn complaint about these characters is holy shit can they stop keep a million secrets from each other。 It's more like secret keeping simulator between them all。 I can barely keep straight who knows what and from whom。 Can we all get together and be honest with each other? Aren't we friends? Writing: SJM definitely improved in this department。 It came into line with the other book that I have read of hers。 She's not a bad writer, but I still staying guarded because I know her stories/books can go downhill really quick。 I also just think SJM is wayyyyy overrated。 Idk why so many people are so horny for her。 She's okay。 I guess they are easily digestible and quick reads。 Things I Would Change: There isn't much I would change in this book。 1) Make the "bad guy" less obvious。 Maybe that is add some other people so we have more people to think about, or don't introduce him right away。 Make him more mysterious。 2) Celaena and Chaol's fight。 I just thought Celaena's reaction was bit extra? She is very emotional for being an assassin。 Shouldn't you be able to have a lot of control? Idk, I get it, but I also was pretty confused when I was reading that section。 3) Give Chaol something to fucking do! This man is the Captain of the Guard, and I swear he doesn't nothing other than think about Celaena。 Dorian got a life; why can you? 4) Maybe make Celaena more assassiny。 She truly assassinates one person。 Kills several others, but didn't intend to kill most of those。 5) In the beginning of the book, Dorian and Chaol are like "OMG why is Celaena so cold when she comes back from assassinating someone??? Who is this girl???" Like, did you fucking forget she was an assassin??? Why are you surprised she can be cold and brutal??? Idk I guess they are idiots too。 6) The biggest problem: Nehemia。 Why? Just why? Why do you have to do that to the black character to further the white one, SJM? I hope you got roasted when you published this。 Overall Thoughts: This book was definitely better than the first one。 4 stars might be a little high, but I did like the book。 It had some minor problems, but nothing major。 I'm going to read the next one, and we'll see what happens next。 I probably will read the whole series just to suffer and say that I did。 。。。more

Firstly, there was no reason for this book to be this long。 It felt repetitive and like we weren’t getting any action just talks of the action that was to come。 Kind of obsessed with chaol I can’t lie。 The ‘huge’ plot twist at the end was predictable and I had figured it out by about halfway through the book so that kinda sucked。 The world building is confusing and I don’t like how there wasn’t a better foundation for all of it。 Still going to finish the series but so far I’m underwhelmed by it Firstly, there was no reason for this book to be this long。 It felt repetitive and like we weren’t getting any action just talks of the action that was to come。 Kind of obsessed with chaol I can’t lie。 The ‘huge’ plot twist at the end was predictable and I had figured it out by about halfway through the book so that kinda sucked。 The world building is confusing and I don’t like how there wasn’t a better foundation for all of it。 Still going to finish the series but so far I’m underwhelmed by it but that’s cause my expectations were high because of all the hype SJM gets。 Not sure if we could call this a love triangle but it shouldn’t have been at all。 Shoutout to the random POV switches to random ass people that we never figure out who they are because that’s confusing as hell。 I was bored through this whole book and the one death didn’t bother me at all tbh。 One good thing is that at least instead of last book where we were told she was the best assassin instead of shown it, that changed here and we got to actually see some proof that she was in fact the best。 I feel like I should like the other dude but he’s lowkey annoying。 I read majority of the book in one sitting for the sake of finishing it instead of because I couldn’t put it down because again, the plot needs to do better。 3 stars seems fair。 。。。more
